Starting pay is about $35 an hour but you can work your way up to $60 an hour once you get more experience and you start learning how to do things faster. Since you can work as little or as much as you want, the sky’s the limit for your earning potential.
This depends on the niche they work in but here are some of the more common examples: Social media management like planning out and scheduling posts, creating reels, making TikToks, hashtag research, and engaging. They also do things like blogging, email marketing, admin work, and Pinterest management. Some virtual assistants have more specific niches and they can do things like website design, branding, creating guides and PDF’s, and graphic design. There are so many different things virtual assistants can do and the niches are endless.
As a Virtual Assistant, you can work with tons of different niches. I recommend sticking to one niche so you can master your craft and have the best quality work. Some of the most common niches are boutiques, realtors, photographers, coaches, wedding creatives, influencers, and more!
How to start your business and be successful at it is WAY more than what I can fit in a blog post! But just a quick run down of some of the most important steps:
You can start by picking which niche you want to work with and the services you want to offer. From there, make an Instagram account and post informational graphics, shared the services you offer, and personal posts sharing more about you! You’ll also need a business email and contract. It’s important to have a contract in place to protect both you and your clients. After that’s all in place, make a guide that explains your services and shares your pricing. You can then start reaching out to potential clients and sharing that information with them!

You get to work remotely. Whether you work from home or rent out an office space, you get to decide where you work. If you ever had a not-so-great boss this next one is for you… you get to be your own boss! I know crazy! You’re in control and get to be in charge of your career. You have the ability to choose your own hours. If you want to get everything done on Monday and Tuesday and have the rest of the week? No problem! Picking my own hours has been an amazing change. Another pro is pay. Once you get established you can start charging your worth and work as many or as few hours as you want, plus there’s little to no start-up cost!
Now being a virtual assistant is truly a great gig but there are some things that do hold people back from starting. Being a business owner is hard and it can be really overwhelming and stressful at times. It’s important to prioritize organization and time management to keep yourself on track. It’s A LOT of work, especially building up your clientele. There can be slow seasons depending on what niche you work with so building up a clientele to keep up your hours is crucial. Now that more people are starting to gain an interest in becoming virtual assistants there’s a lot of competition. You have to work harder to stand out from the crowd and make an impression on potential clients.
